'Work for country, don't covet wealth and status', King tells ministers

PUTRAJAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has reminded cabinet members to work dilligently for the country and advised them against coveting wealth and status.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the matter, which was expressed in a letter by the king was read by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the cabinet meeting earlier today.

"In the letter, the king expressed thanks to the PM, former PMs, ministers, and former ministers serving during his reign.

"PM's pre-cabinet audience on Tuesday was the 160th and the last (for Al-Sultan Abdullah), with the first was held on Feb 13, 2019," Fahmi told a press conference at the ministry here today.

Fahmi, who is the unity government's spokesman, said the king decreed this, citing Muslim scholar Imam Al-Ghazali's quote on leadership.

Al-Sultan Abdullah reminded the ministers to always work for the sake of the country without thinking of possesions and personal interest, he said.
