Floods expected in several areas in Terengganu, Kelantan

KUALA LUMPUR: Several districts in Terengganu and Kelantan are at risk of being hit by floods following the continuous alert issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) for the East Coast states.

This forecast was made by the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (PRABN) of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) based on a flood prediction simulation in the event both states continue to experience heavy downpours.

The PRABN and DID, in a statement, said several areas in the Besut and Setiu districts of Terengganu namely Kampung La, Kampung Seberang La, Kampung Pengkalan Nangka and Kampung Che Mohid are at risk of being hit by floods should heavy showers continue persisting.

"In Kelantan, the Tanah Merah and Pasir Mas areas are at risk of being hit by floods if there is no improvement to the weather situation.

"Among the areas at risk of being hit by floods in Tanah Merah are locations near and around Kampung Kajang, Kampung Nibong and Kampung Air Bujing.

"The 11 locations which may be affected by floods in Pasir Mas are Kampung Kubang Rambutan, Kampung Bagus, Kampung Degung, Kampung Limau Purut, Kampung Pengkalan Telok, Kampung Rasal, Kampung Tersang, Kampung Lubok gong, Pekan Rantau Panjang, Kampung Gelang Mas and Kampung Kalor," read the statement.

PRABN added that the floods predicted at the areas may occur earlier or later than the expected time.

"Such advisory is issued to enable all residents, especially those in the anticipated flood-prone areas, to be vigilant and comply with the directives of authorities or flood disaster management agencies."
