Netizens should avoid uploading violent content on Palestine-Israel conflict

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has discouraged netizens from uploading violent content related to the Palestine-Israel conflict.

Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Teo Nie Ching said that the government has already stated Malaysia's stance regarding the conflict and advised the social media platforms not to take down content related to Palestine.

However, she said there was potential for violent content being taken down following complaints from other users.

"We have told the social media companies of our stance.

"But we urge Malaysians not to upload violent content as some users might report that it affects them emotionally," she told the Dewan Rakyat today.

She was responding to a supplementary question raised by Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias (BN-Jelebu) on social media taking down pro-Palestine content recently.

He was quoting a report where Meta and TikTok received more than 8,000 requests from Israel to remove content related to the conflict in Palestine for allegedly violating company policy.

It was said that over 94 per cent of the content across the major social sites has been removed so far.

He said Israel's prosecutor's office has also asked for a song that praises Hamas and serves as the soundtrack to thousands of videos on TikTok to be taken down.
