KOTA BARU: The Kelantan government will hold a discussion with the Youth and Sports Ministry as well as the National Sports Council over Syariah-compliant sports attire guidelines for the 2028 Malaysia Games (Sukma).

Kelantan Youth, Sports and NGO Committee chairperson Zamakhshari Muhamad said this was important as Kelantan would be hosting the games.

"There are a few games that need to wear syariah compliant attire, like aquatic and gymnastics sports and therefore, the state government will discuss this with the ministry," he was replying to Mohd Rodzi Ja'afar (Pas-Gaal) at the State assembly sitting here today.

He also said the state government hoped that Kota Lama assemblyman Dr Hafidzah Mustakim would help them in the issue.

"Certain games involve women athletes so l believe the Kota Lama assemblywoman can help us," he added.

On Oct 14, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the federal government hopes a RM276 million allocation will benefit Kelantan when it hosts the 2028 Malaysia Games (Sukma).

He said the government hoped the allocation would help the state build sports facilities in accordance with the sports that will be contested in Sukma.

Zahid, who is Rural and Regional Development Minister said the government wants sports to be an element to create integration among the people despite differences in political 'colours'.

He added Kelantan should be highlighted because the state is among the states with a high number of athletic talent.
