Five injured in seven-vehicle pile-up

GEORGE TOWN: Five people were injured in a crash involving seven vehicles in Jalan Bukit Gambir here this afternoon.

Acting Northeast police chief Superintendent V. Saravanan said the crash, involving four cars and three motorcycles, six of the vehicles were stopped at a traffic light junction at the time of the incident.

"Suddenly, a Perodua Myvi, driven by an elderly woman, went out of control and crashed into the vehicles in front.

"Besides the driver of the Myvi, three motorcyclists and a pillion rider were injured," he said, adding that the drivers of the other three cars were unhurt.

Saravanan said the injured had been sent to hospital for treatment.

The case is being probed under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Three of the men injured were students of Universiti Sains Malaysia while another worked at the same university.
