Fahmi praises Bukit Gantang MP for supporting PM, but no additional RM30mil allocation granted

KUALA LUMPUR: Government spokesman, Fahmi Fadzil, commended the Bukit Gantang member of parliament (MP) who backed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, but emphasised that no additional RM30 million allocation was made as the MP requested.

"Well, I do not think so. I mean, he (Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz) is not getting RM30 million," Fahmi said while making a humorous remark that even his constituency did not get a single cent for the public health clinic initiative he advocated for.

Rejecting the notion when queried whether the Bersatu lawmaker was receiving the RM30 million that he had requested for his constituency, the Communications and Digital Minister believes that Perikatan Nasional (PN) MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal proclaimed his support for Anwar out of his own will.

Fahmi underscored that the Prime Minister had stated on multiple occasions in Parliament that initiatives aimed at relieving the public's burden would not be routed through the MPs.

"Those locations or constituencies that require quick implementation of projects that will aid in the resolution of difficulties or challenges confronting the people will be prioritised. Residents in the constituency will experience and feel the benefit," he said when met after attending an event in Kuala Lumpur.

On whether Bukit Gantang MP would get allocation for his constituency later, Fahmi said that would be up to the Prime Minister's discretion.

"I think what he (Bukit Gantang MP) meant was to prioritise certain initiatives or projects that will help to resolve long-standing problems in his constituency," Fahmi said.

On Nov 9, the PN MP said he would declare support for the Prime Minister and the Madani government only if his request for the RM30 million funding to develop his constituency was approved.

Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz is the fifth PN member to declare his support for the Prime Minister and the government.

Previously, four federal lawmakers from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition – Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan) and Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) – declared their support for the Madani government.
