We are ready for anything, says Bukit Gantang MP after Bersatu decision

SUNGAI PETANI: Bukit Gantang member of parliament Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Syed Abdul Fasal is ready to face any possibility over his position as an MP following Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) decision on the matter.

He said today that he was waiting for a letter from the party after the Registrar of Societies (RoS) had approved an amendment to the party's constitution, aimed at preventing members from switching sides.

"We are calm as we know that we are (still) members (of the party) and we need to wait for the letter (from RoS).

"(We) want to see the letter first, (and) we will make a clearer statement after receiving it.

"We want to see the answers given (by the party leadership), and as politicians, we are ready for any possibility."

Syed Abu Hussin said this when met after checks on the Jualan Temuramah Madani programme in Bandar Perdana.

Present were Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul and Sungai Petani MP Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari.

Meanwhile, Syed Abu Hussin, who is the National Action Council on Cost of Living (Naccol) food cluster task force chairman, said he had yet to be contacted by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to discuss the matter.

On Tuesday, the RoS approved the amendment to the Bersatu constitution, which is aimed at preventing members from switching sides.

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said the approval would pave the way for a by-election in six constituencies if the six MPs refused to withdraw their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

At the party's special general assembly, Muhyiddin said the amendment of Clause 10 of the party's constitution, which is in line with the anti-hopping provision under Article 49A of the Federal Constitution, would trigger a by-election.

Once the amendment is passed, six of its lawmakers who had pledged support for Anwar's administration must immediately vacate their seats should they continue supporting the unity government.

Other MPs who had pledged support for Anwar were Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjung Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan) and Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang).
