Two rivers breached the danger level, flood victims stand at 438

KOTA BARU: Two rivers in the state have breached their danger levels today following heavy rains since last night.

The rivers are Golok river in Tumpat and Kelantan river in Kota Baru.

As at 8pm, the Golok river reached 3.17m which is 0.17m above its danger level of 3m, while the Kelantan river recorded 2.53m which is 0.68m of its danger level of 1.85m.

The Golok river in Rantau Panjang measured 7.81m which is 0.81m above its alert level of 7m.

The number of flood victims stand at 438 who are now taking shelter at four relief centres.

The centres are SK Tok Deh (238), SK Jelawat (68), SMK Beris Panchor (67) and SK Kedai Tanjong (65).

So far, floods in Kelantan have claimed the lives of two children – a 23-month-old boy and a nine-year-old boy. Both drowned in separate incidents in Kota Baru district between Nov 26 and today.

The 23-month-old boy drowned after he fell into the river at Kampung Kenali on Nov 26, while the nine-year-old boy was found drowned after he fell into an irrigation canal at Kampung Derdap.
