Firefighting op in Bukit Selambau warehouse passes 60-hour mark

ALOR STAR: Firefighting operations at a recycling warehouse in Bukit Selambau is still ongoing, surpassing the 60-hour mark since operations commenced.

The operations that began on Sunday evening have reached 80 per cent completion.

A spokesperson for the Kedah Fire and Rescue Department said conditions at the site are under control.

He said a Hazardous Materials Unit (Hazmat) has been deployed to the scene for gas detection.

"As of today, there is 20 per cent left in the firefighting operations at the location.

"A Hazmat team was dispatched to the incident site and conditions are under control," he said in a statement today.

It was reported that a fire broke out at Bukit Selambau on Sunday, affecting three warehouses storing recyclable materials such as metal, wires, and copper.

State Department of Environment (DoE) director Sharifah Zakiah had said the three recycling facilities were also operating without proper authorisation, failing to comply with DoE regulations.
