Firefighting op in Bukit Selambau finally ends after 80 hours

ALOR STAR: Firefighting operations at three recycling facilities in Bukit Selambau ended today.

The operation, that began on Sunday evening, took over 80 hours to complete.

State Fire and Rescue Department director Awang Hidzel Awang Bujang announced the closure of the Bukit Selambau Operations Control Centre at midnight.

"We will now shift our operations to identify the cause of the incident.

"We have requested assistance from the K-9 tracking unit to assist in the operations," he said in a statement today.

A fire broke out at Bukit Selambau on Sunday, affecting three recycling facilities storing recyclable materials such as metal, wires, and copper.

It was reported that the three recycling facilities were also operating without proper authorisation and had failed to comply with Department of Environment regulations.

State DoE director Sharifah Zakiah Syed Sahab said the department has slapped an operation suspension order against one of the three recycling facilities.
