Foreign student driver crashes into four cars parked outside mosque

BATU PAHAT: A car driven by a foreigner crashed into four parked vehicles in Km18 Jalan Kluang-Ayer Hitam in front of Masjid Jamek Kampung Parit Jelutong in Parit Raja near here in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The 1.30am incident happened the driver, a 22 year-old student from Yemen, lost control of the

Kia Spectra.

Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ismail Dollah said the driver was with his 23 year-old friend from the United Kingdom, who is also a student.

Both students were heading towards Batu Pahat from Ayer Hitam.

"The vehicle driven by the student is believed to have lost control and crashed into four other vehicles parked in front of the mosque.

"The impact from the crash resulted in all the vehicles being damaged although there were no fatalities.

"Both students in the accident were asked to come to the Batu Pahat police station to facilitate investigations. Urine tests carried returned with negative results," he said when contacted.

Ismail said further investigation revealed that the vehicle driven by the student did not have a valid road tax for the past four years.

Following this, Ismail said the vehicle has been impounded under Section 64(4) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (Rule 10 LN 166/59)."

Ismail urged witnesses to the accident to contact investigating officer Sargeant Zamzuri at 07-432 7704.
