PM keeps mum on cabinet reshuffle

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today remains coy on a possibility that he will undertake a cabinet reshuffle of his unity government.

The Prime Minister, who is also Finance Minister, deflected a question when he was asked if there are any new updates on the reshuffle of the cabinet.

"Do you have any suggestions or developments? (on the cabinet reshuffle)," he asked the media during a door-stop press conference at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium here today.

Earlier this month, Anwar alluded that he would undertake a cabinet reshuffle of his unity government, which celebrated its first year anniversary last month.

He had hinted that it might happen by the end of this year.

The prime minister had said it during a light exchange with 12-year-old Mohd Akmal Afif Yaseer Arafat, who had joined members of the media during a door-stop press conference in front of Putra Al-Amin surau at Fasa 4C of Presint 18 in Putrajaya near here on Dec 1.

During "Setahun Bersama Kerajaan Madani: Tiwikrama Perdana Menteri" special interview four days later, Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, did not rule out the possibility of adding more ministers to the existing cabinet as part of the reshuffling exercise.

The government, he had said, would examine the need to do so based on its experience in the past year.

He nevertheless said all members in his cabinet including himself should be given more opportunities to improve their performance in the federal administration.

"But if there are adjustments that need to be made based on our one-year experience, we will do it, which also includes adding on more if needed," he had said.
