Team of firefighters save distressed 200kg man

KUALA LUMPUR: An obese man weighing approximately 200 kilogrammes had to be rescued by eight firefighters at a construction site yesterday.

The man experienced breathing difficulty at the site on Persiaran Bayan Mutiara, Georgetown, Penang, yesterday.

A spokesperson from the state Fire and Rescue Department said they received an emergency call around 8.45pm from the public reporting the incident, the media reported.

"A team of firemen from the Jalan Perak fire station was dispatched to the location," he said.

The spokesperson said that the victim, aged in his 40s, was semi-conscious and having difficulty breathing.

He added that the victim received initial treatment from St. John's medical team at the scene.

Due to the man's weight, the team had to use a special stretcher to lift him onto his employer's four-wheeled vehicle.

The victim was then transported to Penang Hospital for further treatment. The operation concluded around 10pm.
