Cabinet reshuffle: Perlis hopeful for improved cooperation with federal govt in resolving water supply woes

KANGAR: The Perlis government is hopeful that the Cabinet reshuffle will strengthen cooperation with the federal government, notably in resolving the state's water supply issues.

Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli said his administration would study whether the reshuffle would have any effect on the RM250 million grant previously requested for, with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change.

"I am made to understand that there are some changes in the portfolios held by the previous Cabinet line-up, but I have not studied details on the reshuffle yet.

"We don't have any issue with the Cabinet reshuffle for as long as the minister concerned is open to cooperate with us (the state government).

"I just hope that the minister who holds a portfolio related to Syarikat Air Perlis will look into the water supply issue in Perlis since I am made to understand that there are portfolios swap between Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof," he told reporters after tabling Perlis 2024 Budget during the state legislative assembly sitting here today.

Shukri said the state would study whether it had to resubmit the RM250 million grant application applied to the ministry earlier.

"We don't have an issue to work together with both ministers but we will have to check whether the reshuffle has any impact on our application for a RM250 million grant through National Water Services Commission (SPAN).

"The grant is meant to replace dilapidated pipes in order to reduce our Non-Revenue Water (NRW) in the state," he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced the Cabinet reshuffle which saw the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry changed to Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability led by Nik Nazmi while Fadillah is now leading the Energy Transition and Public Efficiency Ministry.
