In solidarity with Palestine, no New Year's eve entertainment programme in Perlis

KANGAR: The Perlis government will not be organising any New Year's eve entertainment programme in solidarity with the people in Palestine.

Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli said the decision was made to show the seriousness of the state government in supporting the Palestinians.

"At the time when we are organising all sorts of entertainment programmes, our brothers are still being murdered and become martyrs there.

"After considering this heartbreaking situation, I propose that no singing and dancing entertainment programme be held on New Year's eve in Malaysia, where the level of sensitivity is waning," said Shukri while tabling a motion in support of Palestinians in the state assembly sitting today.

The motion was supported by Kayang assemblyman Asrul Aimran Abd Jalil.

It was debated by Bintong assemblyman Fakhrul Anwar Ismail and the only opposition lawmaker in Perlis, Indera Kayangan assemblyman Gan Ay Ling.

Perlis lawmakers unanimously approved the motion.
