Pakistan bans new year celebrations in solidarity with Palestinians

NEW DELHI: Pakistan has banned all new year celebrations in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Condemning Israel's continuing killings of people in the occupied Palestinian territories, caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar pointed out that the Jewish state has slaughtered more than 21,000 people, including 9,000 children, since Oct 7.

"The whole Pakistani nation and the Muslim ummah are in a state of severe grief over the massacre of innocent children and genocide of unarmed Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank," Kakar said in an address to the nation on Thursday.

Keeping in mind the seriousness of the situation, there will be a complete ban on holding any new year celebrations, he said.
