X user claims govt ask platform to take down posting calling minister a 'bloody moron'

PUTRAJAYA: A social media user has claimed that the government had requested that X, the platform previously known as Twitter, take down a posting that was critical towards a certain minister.

However, he said X had yet to take any such action.

The user, whose X handle is @yindian5, was referring to his own posting made against Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

The social media user on Dec 12 in a posting on X labelled Fahmi a "bloody moron" and accused the latter of being Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's lackey.

"Just because this bloody moron @fahmi_fadzil can't do a good job, (the) government has to split the ministry.

"Apart from being Anwar's lackey, what other things are you good at la, moron?" wrote the social media user in the posting.

The user was referring to the Cabinet reshuffle as announced by Anwar on Tuesday which saw several changes including the split of the Communications and Digital Ministry that was previously helmed by Fahmi into two.

The revamp now sees Fahmi heading the Communications Ministry while the country's digital portfolio has been placed under Gobind Singh Deo.

In his most recent posting, @yindian5 claimed the government had made a request to X for his original posting to be taken down.

"If you can't face the wrath because of your incompetency, just resign and get lost.

"Because of your incompetence, a new ministry which will cost at least 100k (RM100,000) per month (to set up and run)," the user claimed in the posting.

The posting was accompanied by screenshots of the original posting and the notice the user received from X: "Hello @yindian5, in the interest of transparency, we are writing to inform you that Twitter has received a request from the Malaysian government regarding your Twitter account, @yindian5 that claims the following content violates the law(s) of Malaysia.

"We have not taken any action on the reported content at this time as a result of this request."

In another posting later, the same social media user made it clear that he or she was not affiliated to any political party.

"To those who followed me after the Fahmi issue, please take note: I am anti PN (Perikatan Nasional)… at all cost. Also anti hypocrisy/hypocrites. Thanks."
