IDEAS: Gobind and Dr Dzul bring invaluable expertise [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The return of two cabinet ministers who previously held positions in the past Pakatan Harapan administration play pivotal roles in influencing effectiveness in the cabinet, said the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS).

Its chief executive officer, Dr Tricia Yeoh, said the complexity of government operations and understanding pertinent issues often takes considerable time for ministers to grasp, which impacts efficiency.

Hence, the depth of experience possessed by Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and Gobind Singh Deo is viewed as invaluable to guide newer members in the administration, she said.

Dr Dzulkefly makes a return as Health Minister in the new cabinet line-up.

Damansara MP Gobind Singh Deo makes a return to the cabinet as Digital Minister.

Yeoh said the combination of experienced and novice politicians within the cabinet can significantly impact governance and policy formulation in Malaysia.

"From my conversations with former ministers, it typically takes a couple of years to thoroughly comprehend the intricacies of governmental workings and navigate the various related agencies.

"So, experience counts for a lot in driving results," she added during an interview on NST's Beyond the Headlines.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced several changes in the federal cabinet line-up on Tuesday (Dec 12).

He said the decision was made after discussing with leaders of parties in the unity government.
