Two Customs posts in Malaysia-Thailand border in Kelantan flooded

RANTAU PANJANG: Two Customs Departments posts were submerged in 0.5m-deep waters as the floods in Kelantan continued to worsen.

The two posts are used for customs inspections and they are located at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complex at the Malaysia-Thailand border

Fortunately, the posts remain opened to motorists.

The two facilities are located at the entrance of Rantau Panjang town for travellers going to Malaysia from Thailand.

Floods have worsened after the Golok river breached its danger level and overflowed its banks since yesterday.

It also resulted in several villages including Kampung Parit Air and Kampung Bagus which are situated in the low-lying areas to be flooded.

As at 8am this morning, the level at Golok river was at 10.20m, which is 1.20m above its danger mark of 9m.

Meanwhile, the overall number of flood victims in Kelantan continued to rise this morning with 1,142 people being evacuated.

The 1,142 victims are from 315 families who were evacuated to 17 flood relief centres.

The districts affected by floods are Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai and Machang.

Machang was the latest district affected by floods after 21 people were evacuated last night.
