Deceased Sabahan man's corneas gift of sight

KOTA KINABALU: An expert in computer programming has become the ninth organ donor in Sabah this year.

Jonathan Ho, 47, from Kg Tuunon Kolopis, Penampang was a graduate with a degree in Computer Information System from Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu, United States, in 1999.

He was an expert in computer programming, actively involved in programming associations, and often participated as a guest lecturer in ICT-related workshops to help the Sabah community delve deeper into the field.

The local man died due to medical issues at Queen Elizabeth hospital (QEH) here.

His family members had agreed to donate a pair of corneas after being informed that the donation could help to restore the vision of patients in need.

"Family members describe the late Jonathan as friendly, cheerful, and always willing to help those in need without hesitation.

"The family expresses gratitude upon learning that the donated corneas have successfully been transplanted to two patients at QEH, hoping for an improved quality of life for them," said Sabah Health director Datuk Dr Asits Sanna in a statement.

He also said the State Health Department extended condolences and expressed the highest appreciation to the family for that organ donation.

Dr Asits said the department also wishes to acknowledge and thank the families of other organ donors who chose to keep the identities of some donation cases confidential this year.
