Crisis in Cendana: Residents fear landslide as unstable slope raises concerns

KUALA SELANGOR: Over 100 residents at the Cendana residential area in Bandar Puncak Alam claim they live on the edge of a possible landslide after witnessing evidence of soil movement since 2016.

They claim that an unstable slope behind Jalan Bestari 2/5 has caused numerous cracks and damages to the roads and properties in the area, including the structure of their homes.

Residents express concern over the situation as they don't want an incident like the one in Taman Wawasan Puchong last Saturday to strike their housing area, especially with the constant downpour these days.

A resident, Addylly Faisal Ramli, 48, said that several meetings were held with the developer, Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS), and Kuala Selangor Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

"However, the issue seems to have no resolution, and residents are forced to endure continuous losses as their assets suffer damages.

"Like my mother's house, she has to spend around RM 30,000 to RM 50,000 each time there are cracks. This doesn't even include the cost of installing a new plumbing system that previously broke due to land movement."

"The damage experienced is very evident. We don't know when (landslides) will occur, so we earnestly request (a solution) to be implemented.

"Don't let the same incident (in Puchong) happen here. We're not asking for much, just don't want any more land movements that disrupt our peaceful nights," he told Berita Harian.

Cendana Housing Residents' Association chairman Mohd Kamal Mohd Kaus said that at least five houses on Jalan Bestari 2/5 were badly affected, with most experiencing severe physical cracks.

He alleged that the road in the back lane was also cracked, approximately three to 3.6 meters long, but has been repaired several times by the developer.

"With this unpredictable weather, we can't wait for a landslide before any action is taken, right? We hope this issue is resolved promptly before jeopardising our safety," he said.
