FBI allegations of cyber misconduct baseless, says Chinese Embassy in M'sia

KUALA LUMPUR: The Chinese embassy here has immediately responded to the NST's interview with United States Federal Bureau of Investigation director Christopher Wray.

It said that China has repeatedly stated its position on the China has repeatedly stated its position on the accusations of cyberattacks levelled against it by the US.

When contacted by the New Straits Times, the embassy said those remarks by the US side were completely baseless and extremely irresponsible.

"As everyone knows, the US is the origin of cyberwarfare, the biggest spreader of advanced cyber weapons and the biggest global cyber thief.

"In an attempt to maintain its hegemony in cyberspace, the US has been knowingly using its tech advantage to conduct massive cyber surveillance and secret theft against the rest of the world, which seriously harms other countries' sovereignty and the privacy of global Internet users," said the embassy to the NST.

It also said at the same time, the US framed the innocent and continuously suppressed other countries with slander and sanctions under the so-called pretext of cybersecurity without evidence.

"China has taken firm and concrete actions to safeguard its cybersecurity. We have been opposing and cracking down on all forms of cyber theft all along.

"China is ready to work with all countries to strengthen international cooperation on cybersecurity and related areas, so as to build a more inclusive, prosperous, peaceful, secure, equal and inclusive cyberspace," said the embassy.
