Deputy IGP: 750 officers and assets deployed in nationwide flood response

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have sent 750 of their officers along with assets to flooded areas nationwide.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the assets include 47 flood boats, 32 lorries, 59 four-wheel drives and six van ambulances.

"There are still five states affected by floods. As of Dec 28, we have sent 750 police officers along with 47 flood boats, 32 lorries, 59 four-wheel drives and six van ambulances.

"We will monitor the (flood) developments," he said to reporters after witnessing a handing-over ceremony at the KL police academy, here, today.

He added that no police assets are inundated as of press time.

The number of flood victims in Kelantan, Terengganu and Johor continued to drop last night while in Pahang it increased, with a total of 24,733 evacuees to 26,914 in the afternoon.

According to a report by the National Disaster Control Centre, National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), the number of active temporary relief centres in the affected states dropped to 101 as of 8 pm last night compared to 131 as of noon.
