New year message: Loke calls for strong leadership will, managing differences for nation rebuilding

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has called for a strong will among country leaders to implement policies that have been developed in this past year.

In a message welcoming the new year, Loke said, the process of rebuilding the nation has already progressed smoothly, facilitated by the rigorous investment climate and stronger trade growth through bilateral ties with countries in Asean and East Asia.

"Many national policies and strategies such as the Madani Economy, New Industrial Master Plan, National Energy Transition Roadmap and more have been crafted and unveiled for execution.

"Our bilateral ties with countries in Asean and East Asia have strengthened and facilitated stronger trade growth. These developments affirm that the Unity Government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim can function well and effectively.

"The process of rebuilding our nation is progressing smoothly. With a strong will, more of the government's plans can be translated into integrated action and comprehensive implementation in 2024," he said.

He added that the Unity Government's biggest challenge is in managing the differences among the diverse parties and uniting towards a common goal.

Loke said his New Year's resolution is to continue playing a constructive role in enhancing the cooperation and sustainability of the Unity Government and contribute to the government's overall performance as the Transport Minister.

"Differences in opinion on certain issues will arise from time to time. This is the norm in politics and democracy. We must manage every situation with a cool head and always adhere to the spirit of consensus. The Cabinet is the country's top decision-making body.

"All governmental policies and key decisions can only be decided through discussion in the Cabinet meetings and consensus achieved by all the parties that form the Government of the day," he said.

"No single party can dominate another in any decision. I am firmly committed to the principle of collective responsibility," he said.

On behalf of the DAP, he reaffirmed their commitment to ensure political stability, foster racial harmony and advance the people's well-being.
