Don't know where to go on New Year's Eve? Here are some suggestions

KUALA LUMPUR: As 2023 comes to a close, it is customary for revellers to find a suitable location to celebrate the New Year's Eve.

Be it in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, places of worship or simply at home with your loved ones, the New Straits Times gathers a list of locations and activities lined up for this evening.

KL's new icon, the Exchange TRX mall will be hosting a New Year's Eve Countdown Party at the Raintree Plaza open space.

The event will feature a captivating drone show and fireworks, scheduled from 5pm to 1am.

It will also showcase international acts namely K-Pop artist B.I, LEO, Clean Bandit, Grace Chatto and local acts such as Airliftz, Lunadira, CLAUDIA, Shelhiel, Ashley Lau and Bad Habits.

Revellers can also head down to the LaLaport BBCC for the Happy Countdown 2024 event that will feature a New Year's night market, countdown and live music.

Elsewhere in the Klang Valley, the IOI City Mall in Putrajaya is gearing up for a concert and fireworks extravaganza featuring a stellar lineup including Gary Chaw, Misha Omar, Midnight Fusic, Asyraf Nasir, and Yonnyboi.

The event will also include a magic show, fire-eating and fireworks displays.

This year's celebration will be toned down as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian people who are currently suffering from Israeli aggression and brutality, and also to respect the victims affected by the ongoing floods in several states.

Nonetheless, there are other events and activities available for individuals who want to usher in the new year.

The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) is set to organise spiritual programmes for Muslims on New Year's Eve at the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur.

Similar programmes will also be held at the Putra Mosque and Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque.

The five-day Kepung Demi Palestine picket in Jalan Tun Razak will also culminate during the New Year's Eve with activities lined up including performances and speeches by renowned figures.

Those expected to attend include Agriculture and Food Security minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as well as former lawmakers Maria Chin Abdullah and Tian Chua.
