MCMC to ensure all service providers will not charge additional for 5G

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will ensure all mobile network service providers will not impose additional charges for access to 5G networks.

In a statement, MCMC said it fully supports the Madani government's commitment to ensure that mobile network service providers do not impose additional charges for access to 5G networks.

"The announcement by the Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil, regarding this matter is in line with the government's ongoing efforts to provide fair and equitable access to advanced telecommunications technology for the entire Malaysian population.

"If there are complaints regarding 5G access charges, users can channel them through the MCMC Consumer Portal at https://aduan.mcmc.gov.my or contact the hotline at 1-800-188-030," it said.

MCMC added that as of 31 December 2023, 5G network services have successfully achieved 80.2 per cent coverage in populated areas.

Earlier, it was reported that Fahmi announced that there is no additional fee charged by the telco to the user to gain access to the 5G network.

He said the chief executive officers of all telecommunications companies had notified him of their decision on this matter.

"Consumers have a variety of options to offer additional plans and services based on the suitability of individual usage.

"However, users need to make sure the device they use supports the 5G network," he said.
