No motion of no confidence submitted by opposition so far - Johari

KUALA LUMPUR: The opposition has yet to submit a motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister, said Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

He said the opposition could submit such a motion to be included even though the first session of the third term would only begin next month.

"We do not reject any related motions, and any member of Parliament can submit any motion now even though the session has yet to begin.

"However, it is up to the Speaker to accept or reject it, and the decision will be announced during the upcoming session of the Dewan Rakyat," he told Berita Harian.

He was commenting on the opposition's claim that there was no guarantee that a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would be accepted for discussion and voting in the Dewan Rakyat.

Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, claimed that many motions filed by the opposition had been rejected by the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat.

Johari said whether a motion is accepted or not is the decision of the Dewan Rakyat Speaker based on the procedures and rules set by the August House.

He recommended that opposition MPs study the House rules to better understand the process.

"If it complies with the meeting rules, InshaAllah (God willing), I will consider it. Everyone needs to understand that I am bound by the meeting rules and do not make arbitrary decisions.

"Study and read the House rules, understand them first," he said.

He also said the process of submitting a motion is very easy, and any MP can submit a motion.

"What is important is that the submitted motion follows the established meeting rules," he said.
