Anwar takes back seat: Refuses to intervene in Najib's battle against 'Man on the Run' on Netflix

KAJANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today refused to interfere with the application by Datuk Seri Najib Razak to remove the documentary 'Man on the Run' from Netflix.

He instead will leave it to the Communication Ministry to decide on the matter.

"It is just a documentary. Nevertheless, I will leave the decision to them (the Communications Ministry)," Anwar told reporters today.

He was asked to comment on reports stating that Najib had sent a letter to Fahmi Fadzil asking his ministry to remove the documentary from Netflix.

Najib's counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, in a letter, said the documentary contained several statements which could be deemed as contempt due to the ongoing 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) financial scandal involving the former prime minister at the High Court here.

Muhammad Shafee also highlighted several excerpts from the documentary in the letter to substantiate his contention.

The documentary, recently aired on Netflix, tells the story of the 1MDB financial saga.

Earlier, Anwar joined thousands of congregations to perform the Friday prayers at al-Hijrah Mosque in Desa Pinggiran Putra here.

Before performing the Friday prayers, the prime minister spent almost 30 minutes mingling with the people and having lunch at a nearby Restoran dan Katering Arham.

Apart from local community leaders, Lembah Jaya assemblyman Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad joined the prime minister at the restaurant.
