KUALA LUMPUR: The fallen tree which killed one person and damaged several cars as well as part of the monorail track at Jalan Sultan Ismail was located on private land.
As such, the landowner was responsible for maintaining the tree, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said today.
In a statement, DBKL said it would continue to monitor high-risk trees in the city and enhance its Tree Management Plan.
DBKL also said it would introduce new guidelines for maintaining aged or high-risk trees by July.
Meanwhile, DBKL said it would assist those affected in Tuesday's incident with their claims.
Those affected can contact DBKL's Finance Department at 03-2617 9509 and the Legal and Prosecution Department at 03-2617 9236 for assistance.
On Tuesday, a 47-year-old man was killed after a tree along Jalan Sultan Ismail fell on several cars.
A 26-year-old who needed to be extracted from his vehicle, suffered injuries.
The fallen tree also damaged 17 vehicles and a portion of the monorail track disrupting services for a day.
