Asyraf Wajdi: M40 folk in urban areas just as burdened as B40

KUALA LUMPUR: People in the M40 income group residing in urban areas with four or more children, on a household income of RM8,000, face similar constraints as those in the B40 group.

Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said he agrees with this view in a Facebook post earlier this morning.

Asyraf, who is also Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman, noted that this group of people also needed attention due to the burden that they face.

"InsyaAllah (God willing), Mara will take this into consideration (the burden faced by people in the M40 group residing in urban areas)," the social media posting read.

In a separate social media posting, Asyraf said he would ensure that the top management in Mara will ensure the ecosystem in the agency can provide the necessary assistance to the people effectively including in the services, delivery and channelling of assistance as well as information aspects.

He acknowledged that many younger generations are still not aware of the opportunities including assistance in the form of funds and entrepreneur development programmes provided by Mara.

He is also aware of the grouses surrounding the delay in the approval of obtaining assistance which burden the people.

"That is why my principle is that we should avoid 'syok sendiri' (self-absorbed) with all the initiatives planned for the people.

"We must do more in understanding the needs of the people," he said.
