Suspect in Molotov cocktail attack on Ngeh to face charges tomorrow

MANJUNG: An individual suspected of hurling a Molotov cocktail at the home of Beruas member of parliament Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham will be charged at the Seri Manjung magistrate's court tomorrow.

When contacted, Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri briefly confirmed the completion of investigation papers and instructions have been given to charge the suspect, aged in his 30s, in court tomorrow."

Yes, the suspect will be charged tomorrow at the Seri Manjung magistrate's court under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire," he said tonight.

Previously, it was reported that the suspect was arrested at 4am on Jan 12 in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Mohd Yusri was quoted as saying that based on their investigation, the suspect, who works in an e-commerce platform, is not a member of any political party and is not someone closely associated with Koo Ham or has ever worked with the Perak DAP adviser.

In the incident at 2.55am on Jan 10, Ngeh's Mercedes Benz E300 was engulfed in flames in the driveway of his residence in Taman Semarak Jaya, Ayer Tawar.

Police confirmed the discovery of a Molotov cocktail bottle at the scene believed to be the cause of the fire.

The incident also caused damage to a Honda CR-V, Toyota Hilux, and the roof of the former Perak Legislative Assembly Speaker's residence.

At the time, he and his wife, who were sleeping on the upper floor of the house, managed to escape after being alerted by the repeated ringing of their doorbell by the neighbour.
