Fadillah keeps mum on rumours of Wan Junaidi's resignation as Dewan Negara president

TUARAN: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has remained mum on rumours that Tan Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has resigned as the Dewan Negara president.

Fadillah, who is also the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chief whip, said a statement on the matter will be issued in due time.

"On that one (comments on Wan Junaidi's supposed resignation), wait first. Wait for me (to issue a statement), not yet," he said.

He was speaking to reporters after attending a briefing on the status of the Telibong Phase II water treatment plant here today.

Media reports yesterday claimed that Wan Junaidi, who is GPS chief, has resigned as Dewan Negara Speaker to prepare for his appointment as the next Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri.

Reports claimed that he is set to replace Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud as the eighth Sarawak governor.

Wan Junaidi, in June last year, came out of retirement to helm the Dewan Negara Speaker post. He replaced Tan Sri Rais Yatim, whose tenure ended on June 16 last year.
