Reshaping MA63 committee: Armizan's return under consideration

TUARAN: The possibility of re-appointing former Sabah and Sarawak affairs minister Datuk Armizan Ali to the committee and council associated with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) is under consideration.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, tasked to handle Sabah and Sarawak affairs, said the committee is undergoing a reshuffling process.

"Armizan is no longer in charge of Sabah and Sarawak, so we have to reorganise the structure.

"Only then can we have a meeting and put up the paper," he said when asked about United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) president Datuk Ewon Benedick on the proposed 40 per cent net revenue implementation mechanism.

Last month, Upko held roundtable discussions with Sabah leaders who are experts in their respective fields to discuss a framework mechanism for allocating 40 per cent of the federal revenue to Sabah.

Ewon said the proposal would be submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Fadillah, and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor before the scheduled convening of Malaysia Agreement-related committees this year.

Fadillah, also the Energy Transition and Public Utilities minister, said he had met Hajiji and received his direction.

"What I am going to do is to include both Armizan and Ewon in the committee and start the discussion."
