PUTRAJAYA: Tanjong Karang member of parliament Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi's declaration of support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim proves confidence in unity government, disproving claims that it was on the verge of collapse.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he welcomed the news and it also proves that the government was on the right track and is capable in solving people's problems.
Fahmi, who is unity government spokesman, did not discount the possibility of more Perikatan Nasional MPs following suit based on the latest development.
"What Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal had said may have some truth to it, but we will wait and see.
"He said seven or eight MPs (from PN); today there was one who expressed support for PM," he told reporters.
He stressed the importance of ensuring government stability in delivering services to the people.
Among them, he said, were five important policies last year, namely, Madani Economy, New Industrial Master Plan, progressive wage policy and review on public service remuneration scheme, which would be implemented this year.
Zulkafperi earlier said his decision was to ensure the continued advocacy for the welfare and development of his constituents including the improvement of infrastructure and local needs.
