Passion for football in Simunjan ignited by refereeing course

SIMUNJAN: The football refereeing course in Simunjan has sparked a renewed interest in the sport, promising to develop a deeper understanding and skill set among aspiring referees in the district.

As reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit, the course, held from Jan 27 to 28, was designed to introduce new referees to the basics of managing football matches, ranging from community and district levels to higher competitive tiers.

The initiative, as stated by Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris, is pivotal in nurturing knowledgeable referees equipped with fundamental skills and official certification.

During the closing ceremony of the Class 3 Football Referee Course for the Simunjan District, Awla emphasised the significance of the training.

"This initiative is not only about developing the sport but also about revitalising football in the region and aiding those who wish to organise football competitions," he said.

Awla further encouraged the organisers and participants to register as a referee association in the district of Simunjan, easing the process of fund allocation to the association.

The event also saw the presence of Sarawak's Referee Development Officer Busrah Eri and the Simunjan Sports Bureau chairman Wan Ezahar Wan Ridzuan.
