Red Crescent Society in Sibu bolstered by new ambulance donation

SIBU: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu Branch has been significantly strengthened by the generous donation of a new ambulance from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) Malaysia.

The Sarawak Public Communications Unit, in a report on Jan 29, said that the handover ceremony was witnessed by community figure Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau and took place at the MRCS Sibu Branch headquarters on Monday.

Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee, MRCS Sibu Branch chairman, expressed his gratitude for the contribution, highlighting the impact it will have on the society's capacity to deliver improved ambulance services.

"Currently, we operate with one old ambulance. With this generous contribution from LDS and another one we are expecting in February, we will have three ambulances at our disposal," he said.

Chua also emphasised the strategic role of the additional ambulances in alleviating the pressure on Sibu Hospital's ambulance services.

"In a smart partnership with Sibu Hospital, we assist in providing essential ambulance services required by the community," he added.

Dr Rachel Teng, MRCS Sibu vice chairman and of Sibu Hospital deputy director, pointed out the growing demand for ambulance services to transport patients to the hospital, especially during emergencies and disasters.

"With this donation, we are better equipped to support the hospital in the transportation of accident victims," she said.

Representing LDS, volunteer Sandy Hall expressed their pride in contributing to the noble cause.

"During our 17-month stay in Malaysia, this is the second ambulance we have donated. We saw the need and we came to assist.

"The church is also involved in enhancing the infrastructure of Sibu Hospital and supporting a school in Lundu in similar endeavours," Hall said.
