Penang Red Crescent Society to offer 24-hour emergency services during Chinese New Year

GEORGE TOWN: As the festive fervour of Chinese New Year ramps up, the Penang Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) is enhancing its emergency response services, working in conjunction with Ops Selamat, an initiative by the police.

From Feb 7 to 13, MRCS will provide a critical 24-hour ambulance service across the state, involving a dedicated team of 200 members, including volunteers, to ensure that help is readily available at all times during the holiday period.

MRCS's enhanced emergency services will operate out of four centres strategically placed across Penang: on the island itself and in the north, south, and central regions of Seberang Perai. This placement ensures comprehensive coverage and rapid response times for any emergencies that may arise.

Deputy Chairman of Penang MRCS, Datuk Loh Nam Hooi, outlined the collaboration with police, the Fire and Rescue Department, and local government hospitals.

"Our MRCS members will work closely with government hospitals to ensure a smooth service delivery for emergency cases during this festive period.

"Before the patients are sent to the hospital for further treatment, our trained members will provide pre-hospital treatment in the ambulance," Loh said.
