Flood-related affairs in Pahang handled by PKOB solely - MB

KUANTAN: All flood-related operations during and after the disaster in Pahang are solely handled by the district Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB).

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the PKOB, led by the respective district officers, is jointly coordinated with the state Disaster Management Committee chaired by secretary Datuk Seri Datuk Zulkifli Yaakob.

"PKOB has been tasked to coordinate all flood related matters in Pahang including distributing aid and post-flood cleaning. This is to avoid redundancy and ensure there would be no overlap.

"Those who want to deliver humanitarian aid and assistance should not directly turn up at the flood relief centres but must liaise with the PKOB. To date, such an approach has ensured proper coordination and zero complaints from flood victims," he told reporters after receiving flood assistance under Petronas 'Prihatin Pakej' for victims at Wisma Sri Pahang here today.

Wan Rosdy said Pahang recorded some 1,200 flood victims last week and majority of them have returned home after the water receded in stages. To date, only seven victims from two families remain at the Kampung Baru multipurpose hall in Maran.

Meanwhile, Petronas East Coast general manager Mohammad Ahmad Shazly Ramli, who handed the assistance worth RM460,000 to Wan Rosdy, said the aid would help ease the burden of the flood victims.

"The 'Pakej Prihatin' baskets for 1,500 head of families consist of daily necessities such as blankets, biscuits, towels, shower items and mineral water. Petronas Gift Cards worth RM10,000 were distributed to the state Disaster Management Committee representatives," he said.

Also present was Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman, state Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Dr Wan Mohammad Zaidi Wan Isa and state Civil Defence Force director Colonel Che Adam A Rahman.
