NGOs assisting in Pahang floods must liaise with PKOB - MB

TEMERLOH: Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) who want to deliver humanitarian aid and assist flood victims in Pahang must liaise with the respective district Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB).

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said liaising with the PKOB will ensure better coordination to the affected residents as this will help reduce wasting time and manpower on the ground.

"Each district has a PKOB which is led by the district officer to coordinate all flood related matters and the NGOs can contact the centres to ensure that assistance goes through the proper channel and to those who are really in need.

"This is to ensure there would be no overlap in duties or wastages. Make it an effort to contact the PKOB to obtain accurate information and advice on the location which they(NGOs) plan to visit. We need to better manage our manpower," he told reporters after visiting flood victims at the SK Telok Ira relief centre here today.

Meanwhile, on the aid for flood victims in Pahang, Wan Rosdy said it will be looked into much later as the state government will have to determine the amount.

"As for now the priority is to ensure all the victims are safe, comfortable and have enough food supplies. We are grateful that the flood situation in Pahang is under control," he said..

Earlier, Wan Rosdy visited 24 flood victims housed at SK Tebing Tinggi in Jerantut before inspecting the erosion site near Kuala Krau bridge which was damaged by floods.

As of 4pm today, Pahang has a total of 162 victims from 44 families seeking shelter at eight relief centres in four districts namely Jerantut, Temerloh, Bera and Maran.
