Measures taken to ensure continuous water supply during festive season in Pahang

KUANTAN: Pengurusan Air Pahang Bhd (Paip) has provided 1,224 static tanks to ensure uninterrupted water supply during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Thirty-four water tankers are on standby in case of any unscheduled breakdowns.

Paip's chief executive officer Datuk Saiful Zaini Mohd Bokhari said they had several contingency plans to tackle water supply woes as there might be a surge in the use of water during the festive season.

Paip has executed several measures since April 3 to ensure enough water supply till April 17.

"Besides the static tanks and water tankers, Paip has placed jumbo water tanks at selected locations to help fill up water tankers within a short duration without the need for the tankers to travel far. We have 30 filling stations for the tankers.

"Our contractors are on standby to carry out repair work in case of unexpected breakdowns.

"Tenaga Nasional Berhad has provided generators near water treatment plants (LRA) in areas categorised as high power outage risk during Aidilfitri," he said in a statement.

Saiful said Paip began maintenance work at all treatment plants since early this year to help manage water efficiently during the hot season and Aidilfitri.

"The water intake point (muka sauk) at 20 locations in Pahang was cleaned at a cost of RM350,000 to ensure raw water supply and that the treated water will not be murky.

"Forty-four units of pontoon pumps (floatation devices) were installed at treatment plants at a cost of RM8.5 million to ensure continuous operation in the face of river water levels dropping. It cost about RM1 million to service our assets including mechanical equipment and water pumps in Pahang," he said.

Saiful reminded consumers to use water wisely, and store enough water for the festive season.
