24 locations in Johor set for statewide upgrade to glow-in-the-dark road lines

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Public Works Department has identified 24 roads across the state to be upgraded with glow-in-the-dark road lines.

The roads, in nine of the 10 districts were identified for potential use of the illuminated road lines, which is ideal in low-lit areas to ensure the safety of motorists.

The districts include Johor Baru, Pontian, Batu Pahat, Tangkak, Kluang, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, Muar, and Mersing.

State Public Works, Transport, and Infrastructure Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said an allocation of RM1 million from the Johor 2024 Budget, was allocated for the upgrading of existing road lines to the glow-in-the-dark version, using luminescent road paint treatment.

"The primary objective is to enhance road safety, particularly in areas prone to accidents due to insufficient lighting," he said.

He added the glow-in dark technology will eventually be implemented on pedestrian walkways, curbs, and streets.

Meanwhile, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi will be visiting the state's first glow-in-the-dark road lines along Jalan Simpang Renggam -Renggam tomorrow.

The Jalan Simpang- Renggam stretch was chosen to test the efficacy of the method.
