Pahang agrees to create MAB mossy forest- MB

KUANTAN: The Pahang state government has agreed to create a Man and Biosphere (MAB) Mossy Forest in Cameron Highlands, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

He said the forest will cover 4,963.57 hectares of 13 Permanent Forest Reserves and a portion of 3,398.93 hectares of government land located in the Mukims of Ulu Telom and Tanah Rata in the highlands.

"The MAB Mossy Forest is aimed at conserving biological diversity and promoting sustainable development, as well as to play a significant role in research and educational activities," he said in a statement here today.

Wan Rosdy said the state executive council meeting decided to establish the MAB Mossy Forest at its meeting on Wednesday (Jan 3).

Wan Rosdy added that the project is expected to educate the public on the importance of ecological preservation and sustainable resource management.

He said the project is also in line with World Heritage Destination Pahang Blueprint: Transformation towards a heritage-based economy.

In addition to other aspects, the Blueprint outlines the intention of implementing resource development through the recognition of sites or areas as World Heritage Sites and UNESCO Global Geoparks. --BERNAMA
