Gruesome discovery at Rantau Abang Beach: Headless body found in advanced state of decomposition

DUNGUN: A somber discovery unfolded at the Rantau Abang beach as visitors were shocked to find a human body washed ashore in the evening today.

The body, significantly decomposed and lacking a head, was clad in torn clothes when it was spotted around 5.15pm.

Dungun district police chief, Superintendent Maizura Abdul Kadir, reported that upon receiving the news, a team of police promptly arrived at the scene.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the true identity and age of the deceased are yet to be determined, she said.

"We suspect that the body might have been carried by water currents before the waves washed it ashore," she said, adding that the headless body had been taken to the Dungun Hospital's forensic unit for post-mortem.

Maizura said police would look at all angles to ascertain if any criminal elements were involved.

She also said efforts would be made to identify whether the body belongs to a foreigner.

The police chief urged the public to cooperate and reach out to the police if they have lost family members.

Given the deteriorated condition of the body, estimated to be dead for over a week or two, she said police classified the case as a sudden death.
