Decomposed body found floating in waters of Pulau Pangkor

LUMUT: A decomposed body was discovered floating in the waters of Pulau Pangkor here today.

Manjung district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Nordin Abdullah said the police were alerted to the discovery at 12.18pm.

Mohamed Nordin said a team of policemen from Pulau Pangkor, assisted by Kampung Acheh Police Marine and Pulau Pangkor Fire and Rescue Department, rushed to the scene.

"Police did not find any identification, and the gender of the body has not yet been identified.

"We believe that the body has been in the sea for more than two weeks based on its condition and clothes," he said in a statement tonight.

He added that the body was taken to the Forensic Unit of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for post-mortem, and so far, the case has been classified as a sudden death.

"Those who have lost family members or have any information about the incident can contact the nearest police station or Manjung District Police Headquarters at 05-6886222," he said.
