Venomous visitor: 4m-long king cobra seeks refuge from the heat in bathroom drama

SIK: A resident of Kampung Batu 2, Sungai Pau, found a king cobra perched on the wooden roof rafters of his bathroom.

Upon spotting the snake, the resident immediately contacted the district Civil Defence Force (CDF) for help.

Responding swiftly to the emergency call at 10.22 pm, CDF officer Haisul Aishah Mohd Napiah said a team arrived at the scene to find the four-metre-long king cobra still in the vicinity.

With caution and expertise, she said the team managed to capture the highly venomous snake after a 30-minute operation.

"Despite the snake's attempt to escape and hide in a crack in the resident's house wall, the team successfully secured it using a snake catcher."

Haisul Aishah said the king cobra was taken to the Sik CDF Operation Control Centre before being handed over to the Sik Wildlife and National Parks Department.

This incident, she said, served as a reminder for the public to remain vigilant, especially during the hot weather, as venomous reptiles may seek shelter in residences.

The public is advised to be alert, particularly in cool areas such as bathrooms, bedrooms, and under beds.

She added that the public can contact the district CDF at 04-469 8221 for any emergency cases.
