No signs of foul play: Police investigation of body found wrapped in blanket points to sudden death

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have classified the death of a man, whose body was found wrapped in a blanket by the side of the road at Kampung Kuala Tasek Machang Bubok near here on Saturday as sudden death.

This was after the post-mortem report revealed the death was a result of coronary atherosclerosis.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Cheng San said police received a call at about 2.55pm on Saturday, on the discovery of the body.

He said initial investigation revealed the incident happened in an oil palm estate at Kampung Kuala Tasek.

"The body, clad in a green T-shirt with grey sarong, was wrapped in a blanket. No document was found on it.

"We believed the deceased could have been a foreigner as there was no Bacillus Calmette Gurrain (BCG) scar on the arm.

"Police also found no injuries on the body, which could suggest criminal elements," he said today.

Tan said the remains were sent to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital forensic unit and post-mortem revealed the cause of death as coronary atherosclerosis.

"We have yet to ascertain the identity of the deceased.

"The case is probed as sudden death," he added.

Police are asking those with information about the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.
