Menteri besar to be summoned over RM6 million graft claims involving football association

KUALA LUMPUR: A menteri besar from a 'northern state' will be summoned by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) over claims of graft involving over RM6 million.

According to sources, the corruption investigation was made after the MACC had received a report from a contractor who had been promised contracts in the state if they channeled funds into a football association's account.

"Based on investigation, there is an important high-positioned individual in the state government and in the football association who had promised to grant construction projects and services as a return to the contractor for channeling funds.

"However, after these contractors had done so to the football association's account, they did not receive any projects as promised by the individual involved," the source said.

The source added that the contractor had felt cheated and had made a report to the MACC on the matter.

Meanwhile, MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim had confirmed that the MACC would be calling up the Menteri Besar to get more information.
