MPJ upgrades four entry points bordering Negri Sembilan, Johor

JASIN: The Jasin Municipal Council (MPJ) is upgrading four entry points to Melaka in the district bordering Negri Sembilan and Johor in conjunction with Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM 2024).

MPJ president, Rosemanizam Mohammed Nalif said the upgrading works included adding lighting, painting the gates and beautifying the landscapes in Chohong, Batang Melaka, Asahan and Sungai Rambai.

"All these areas have very interesting landscapes and scenic views, suitable for visitors who love taking selfies and pictures of beautiful surroundings.

"In addition, we will constantly ensure public facilities, such as toilets, especially at other tourist locations in Jasin are maintained for the comfort of visitors," he told reporters at his office in Vista Alamanda, MPJ here today (January 10).

Elaborating, Rosemanizam said the Jasin district is also a hidden gem for ecotourism activities as it has many interesting locations that many do not know about.

He said an example of the ecotourism area is the glamping campsite at the Asahan water theme park, which borders the three states, while those who are keen on hiking and nature can head to the camp in Bukit Batu Lebah.

"In addition, MPJ will also upgrade roads in Pantai Siring, which are usually congested with vehicles on weekends as many people and tourists head there to enjoy the sights and food," he said.

He also welcomed the public to join the 'Jom Selfie MPJasin' competition in conjunction with the MPJ's 17th anniversary, which offers the main prize of RM500 and five consolation prizes worth RM200.

Meanwhile, Rosemanizam said the MPJ is also collaborating with the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Persatuan Pencinta Haiwan Melaka, to house wild and abandoned dogs, that have been caught, at shelters in this district to tackle the issue of stray dogs.

"So far, we have caught 326 dogs and placed them at shelters, and they will be neutered while the sick dogs will be placed separately and given treatment.

"MPJ has issued temporary building permits for six months but, at the same time, we are identifying a more suitable location for this animal shelter since there have been complaints from residents that the current shelter is too close to housing areas," he said.

He said that throughout last year, MPJ also received 117 dog-related complaints and most of them were resolved while the rest is being dealt with. — Bernama
