Beyond the Headlines: Royal institution, Malaysia's New King and stopping corruption [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: In the latest episode of Beyond the Headlines, the team discussed crucial news surrounding the departure of Malaysia's 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the appointment of the 17th King of Malaysia.

On the constitutional front, Associate Professor Datuk Dr Shamrahayu Ab Aziz of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) joined the panel to share the potential of expanding the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's role to represent the nation on an international level.

This was after Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah said, before the 16th King and Queen departure ceremony, that the King's role would boost efforts to develop the country further and strengthen the royal institution on the world stage.

Currently, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's formal duties abroad mainly comprise representing Malaysia for state funerals or royal installations.

We also examined Al-Sultan Abdullah's impact on governance and political stability and explored the royal institution's contribution to fostering national unity and discipline as the nation welcomed its 17th Agong, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

Separately, the episode also saw Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4 Centre) chief executive officer Pushpan Murugiah present on set, discussing the recommendations to improve Malaysia's Corruption Perception Index ranking disclosed earlier this week.

The session explored the lengths of holding the government accountable for a concrete plan to achieve the CPI target.
