Monitor schoolchildren's health during hot spell

SUNGAI PETANI: The Education Ministry has advised parents to monitor their school-going children's health and daily routines amidst the soaring temperatures brought about by the El Nino phenomenon.

Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the remaining four days of the current school term would proceed with cautionary measures implemented by all schools.

"The schooling session will continue as usual. However, we will closely monitor and maintain constant collaboration with the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) regarding weather conditions.

"I urge parents and teachers to remain vigilant during the remaining four days of the school term and during the school break.

"It is crucial to monitor the wellbeing of children, especially during this period," she told reporters after handing out Early School Aid funds to the state Education Department here today.

Yesterday, MetMalaysia issued a level one heatwave alert in three districts within Kedah namely, Pokok Sena, Pendang, and Baling.

The alert indicated a daily maximum temperatures ranging between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius.

She said all schools had been instructed to adhere to guidelines related to weather conditions to address the issue effectively.

"We remind schools to heed these reminders so that we can address any issues that may arise during hot weather conditions."

On the early school aid funds, Fadhlina said a total allocation of RM45,396,000 was handed over for the benefit of 302,640 students across 750 schools statewide.

"These funds signify a government-led effort specially designed to alleviate the financial burdens of those preparing for school in the upcoming session."
